Family and Child Services

Community Action provides a wide variety of Family and Child services to help families in poverty become self-sufficient. Community Action believes that it is crutial to give families and children tools and services necessary to allow them to break the cycle of being in poverty.

In Kentucky, 23 % of all children under the age of 18 currently live in poverty. Children don’t get themselves into poverty, and they are powerless to get themselves out. Often parents do not have the means to provide their children the basic building blocks to become self-sufficient. These children may grow up without the opportunity for education, and may not receive proper healthcare and nutrition which will cause them to live a live in poverty just as their parents did. |

Community Action provides a variety of programs to help children with the involvement of their parents and families to achieve those basic building blocks to become self-sufficent. Programs may include

| Community Action also realizes the great importance that families play in a child's life and for a child to becoming self-sufficient. Therefore great emphasis is put on improving, maintaining and restoring family environments. Programs offered include:

| Community Action also has Youth Programs and Services to help individuals stay in school, stay away from negative influences and live up to their full potential. |

Last but not least, to help families move out of poverty, assistance needs to be provided to the adults to attain the necessary skills, education and resources to become self-sufficient. Adults, with children or elderly that need constant attention, will also need additional help in finding help finding someone to take care of them while working. Community Action Agencies offer programs that may include:
